Coro Perosi is a non-profit making music organization established since 1997. Since then, we had organized several concerts and had been invited for performances in Hong Kong and Zhongshan. By year 2002, we had participated in the 6th International Music Festival in Beijing, China; and had won the copper prize. Besides regular practices, we also invite individual voice soloists to train our members. We are an energetic choir in Macau.

Coro Perosi will start their 'Musical Tour in Italy' on 1 August. The half-month tour will take the Choir to the Vatican, Rome, Assisi, Florence, Siena, Pisa and Venice. In addition to holding concerts during the tour, the Choir will sing at the Santa Udienza at San Pietro, as well as Masses in various Catholic cities.
The main purpose of this event is to take abroad Macao's local sacred music compositions; the preparation work of this trip began over a year ago. Under historical and traditional influence, Catholic music has undergone systematic development in Macao for 400 years. St. Paul's College, the first higher education academy of the Far East, started developing the writing and teaching of liturgical music in the 16th century, however, a fire destroyed most of such historical documents. In the 18th century, St. Joseph's Seminary was built, and it shouldered the responsibility of musical training in Macao. Musical teaching and activities were conducted by Western musicians hired by successive bishops of Macao; these musicians included F. Ferdinando Maberini (1886-1956) from Italy and F. Guilherme Schmid (1910-2000) from Austria. They left a huge amount of liturgical works and produced successful students such as F. Áureo da Costa Nunes e Castro (1917-1993) and Doming Lam (1926- ). Catholic liturgical music thus became one of Macao's unique and precious cultural treasures.
Part of the budget for Coro Perosi's Musical Tour in Italy is sponsored by Macau Foundation, Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macau S.A.R. Government, Macau Government Tourist Office, D. José Lai, Bishop of Macau, Wu’s Group, HM-Property and Mr. Cheang Meng Cheong.
